Read business and market together

Understanding a business requires examining internal reality alongside its market context.

Why it matters

Two businesses may have similar internal performance yet face different opportunities and pressures because of customers, competition, timing, and the wider environment.

Understanding the idea

TBT’s perspective connects business health with market context. Resources and operations alone are insufficient, just as market attractiveness alone says little about a business’s capacity to respond.

Business–Market Fit directs attention to the relationship between a business and the market it serves. It is introduced here as a conceptual lens, without a formula or standardised fit score.

We ask what has changed in customers, competition, and the environment, and whether business assumptions remain appropriate. ‘We do not know yet’ can be useful information for further examination.

In practice

Questions to explore: Has what customers value changed? Can operating capability support the promise being made? Does timing alter the meaning of an opportunity or risk?

Basis and limitations

An introduction to the Business × Market × Time principle in TBT’s approved architecture. No empirical study or systematic comparison with external literature is supplied on this page.

This is a conceptual formulation, not a validated measure or a quantitative causal relationship. Assessing fit in a real business requires evidence and professional judgment.
